Positive mosquito test shows WNV season is here
Published Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 10:20 AM

A day after it was announced birds in Morrill and Dawes counties tested positive for West Nile Virus, Scotts Bluff County Health Director Bill Wineman says a mosquito sample west of Morrill has also tested positive for the disease. Wineman says the positive test came from mosquito samples collected the first week of August, and it likely will not be the only one.

Wineman reminds residents that the late summer months of August and September are when humans are most susceptible to being infected with the virus.

Wineman says the number of mosquitoes at the test collection sites were down in June and July, but they are picking up now, especially the Culex mosquito that carries the virus.
