
High winds Wednesday have blown a semi off the road on Highway 71 just north of Kimball. The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. and the Kimball County Sheriff's office says the driver of the vehicle, owned by Rumble Trucking from Michigan, was taken to the Kimball hospital with minor injuries. A weather observer estimated the wind gusts in the Kimball area at over seventy miles per hour at the time, and the National Weather service recorded a gust of 67 miles per hour shortly before the accident. Winds in Kimball and Banner county have been a sustained forty to fifty miles per hour since ten Wednesday morning, with higher gusts over 60 miles per hour.
Outbuildings north and east of the West Nebraska Regional Airport at the intersection of County Roads 27 and County Road J were heavily damaged Tuesday night by high winds. County Road J was blocked for a short time while friends and neighbors helped remove large sections of roof trusses and walls from the roadway.
