A Mitchell man accused of beating a young boy with a belt has been charged with felony child abuse, third degree domestic assault and disturbing the peace. 41 year old Alberto Rios was arrested after officers from the Mitchell and Morrill Police departments and the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's office responded to a domestic call Sunday night.

Documents in Scotts Bluff County Court indicate an eight year old boy and his mother told Police Rios struck the boy with the belt across his back, his legs and his buttocks for talking back to the adults. The boy also suffered a split lip. The mother told Police she was struck in the face when she tried to stop Rios.

Rios was also charged with possession less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
