An unidentified out of state man rescued after falling off a cliff in a remote area of Morrill County Monday has been transferred from Regional West Medical Center to an unidentified Colorado facility for treatment. Authorities say the 23 year old, only identified as "Matt" from Michigan or Minnesota, suffered serious pelvic and hip injuries in a fall of at least forty feet.
The man was hurt as he and a companion were hiking in the Wildcat Hills on the Schuler ( Shoe- ler) ranch nine miles southwest of the unincorporated town of Reddington. Bridgeport City Administrator Bill Boyer, who is also an emergency responder, says it took four wheel drive ATVs an hour to get to the area after a call to 911 from his friend. Ropes were used to get to the man, who fortunately had a ledge to atch his fall.
The man is believed to have fallen around 4:30 p.m. Rescue personnel from Bridgeport, Bayard, and Gering fire departments along with Morrill County deputies helped lift the man out of the ravine. Air Link transported him to the hospital.
The men reportedly worked on a construction crew placing a cell tower in the area, but it's not known why they were in the rugged area where the accident occurred.
