Judges worried about possible moving of county judge

The commission is holding a public hearing June 8th on the vacancy being created in the 12th Judicial District with the June 1st retirement of County Judge James Hansen of Chadron, and there's expected to be a push to move the seat to the east...probably Lincoln or Omaha.
County Judge Glenn Camerer of Scottsbluff says having just 4 judges to cover the 11 Panhandle counties plus Grant County would not be good for the judicial system or the region.
The Panhandle judgeship is at risk because the Nebraska legislature puts a cap on the number of judges in the state, preferring to see current seats moved if another area needs more judges.
The 12th District lost a county judgeship to the east in 2004 after the death of Judge C-G Wallace of Kimball and a district judgeship 2 years ago when the Resources Commission decided to fill just 1 of the vacancies created by the retirements of Robert Hippe of Scottsbluff and Paul Empson of Chadron.
