Alliance council approves dog park

Mayor Ralph Yeager cast the only vote against the dog park, saying he liked the concept but not the site...which is near the library, swimming pool, and high school.
Councilman Trent Benzel shared Yeager's feeling that the location wasn't necessarily the best for a dog park, but said he had confidence the park itself would be great...in part because of the dog owners group that fought for it.
Dog group President Jay Weisgerber says fundraising efforts are continuing to help pay for the park...focusing o supplies such a 5-foot tall fence to enclose it.
The dog park site was originally thought to include some Alliance school district property as well, but the Box Butte County Assessor's office determine it was all city-owned land.
