Potential explosive device destroyed in Alliance
Published Monday, November 02, 2009 at 02:08 PM
A potential explosive device discovered in Alliance Sunday afternoon turned out to be nothing dangerous, but did keep law enforcement busy for two hours.

The suspicious looking device was found in the 500 block of Flack Avenue at 2:10 p.m., Sunday afternoon by a 37-year-old Alliance resident near a storage shed that he rents.

Alliance Police Lt. Ken Hart says officers were unable to determine that the object was not hazardous, so Nebraska State Patrol Troopers and members of the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department also responded to assist.

Several neighbors were evacuated for about two hours.

Hazardous Device Technicians from the Nebraska State Patrol and Scottsbluff Police Department destroyed the device in place without causing any harm to nearby buildings.

Further investigation revealed there was no actual hazardous material in the object, which was wrapped in a large amount of silver duct tape
