The embattled owner of the 3-Strikes Ranch made his first appearance in Morrill County Court Wednesday without representation. Forty two year old Jason Meduna is charged with 149 class 4 felony counts of animal cruelty regarding the discovery of malnourished and dead horses on his ranch south of Alliance.

In Court Wednesday, Meduna told Judge G. Glenn Camerer that due to the complexity of his case he needed at least a month to find a lawyer. Judge Camerer say he would not delay the next hearing longer than 30 days and set a prelimanary hearing for June 17th at 1 pm.

Meduna had been represented by Scottsbluff Attorney Dave Eubanks in April when a defense request to do their own testing of the horses was granted by the court.

Morrill County Attorney Jean Rhodes says the investigation is continuing.

If convicted Meduna could receive up to 5 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine or both for each felony.
