County Board Delays Decision To Sell Real Estate
Published Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 12:11 PM

The Scotts Bluff County Commissioners Monday evening tabled putting up several county properties for sale until they get a more accurate value from the assessor's office on what the properties are worth. The commission is looking sell twelve lots on the east end of the Pathfinder Addition property in southeast Gering, the former juvenile detention center in Gering and a lot near Lyman.

But County Attorney Derek Weimer told the board under state statute that the commissioners needed to express a "minimum bid" based on the real estate's fair market vale when they advertised the properties. Weimer said the commissioners couldn't "just pull numbers out of the air", especially on the detention center property, which was redesigned for a specific purpose when it was changed from a vet clinic close to twenty years ago. At that time it was valued at $187,000. a price even board members said would be high right now given improvements needed at the property.

Developer Bob Unzicker told the board the minimum price for the Pathfinder properties needed to be adjusted because they were ready for only sewer but not water and street improvements.
