Card scam part of Sidney robbery

The Nebraska State Patrol says four Kentucky men were taken into custody on a state highway shortly after a robbery in the vicinity of the Sidney McDonald's parking lot Thursday. An arrest affidavit filed in Cheyenne County District Court says troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol stopped the suspects' vehicle a mile north of the Nebraska-Colorado line on Highway 19 around 12:40 Thursday afternoon. The robbery, which involved the taking of a reported $1,500 from the victim, Dale Green occurred just a few minutes earlier.

The arrest affidavit says Green told Police he was approached by a man to come look at a motorcycle in the Sapp Brothers McDonalds parking lot. Green said when he got there he was robbed of $1,500 in a card scam by the four suspects. The affidavit says the victim identified the suspects as the guilty parties when taken to the scene of the traffic stop. The suspects claim among other things that Green lost his money when they induced him to gamble.

Captain Tom Parker says troopers were conducting a selective enforcement in the area at the time of the robbery and quickly observed the vehicle in question. 56 year old Robert Murphy, 32 year old Michael Palma, 31 year old Vester Burgin and 21 year old Martin Noel were all charged with theft by deception and conspiracy to commit theft. They are being held on bonds of $50,000 to $75,000, 10% cash, pending a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
