Power is back on in the Scottsbluff area after lightning from a storm that moved through late last night hit a 5th Avenue substation, causing outages in the northern part of the community. NPPD says 2,200 customers were without power in the northeast corner of Scottsbluff for a time into early this morning.

Damaging winds accompanied the late night thunderstorms that moved through the local area around 11:30 p.m. From one mile north of Scottsbluff a downburst from the storm with winds estimated 75-80 miles per hour. Large tree branches were down, and there was heavy rain with standing water in low lying areas. An inch of rain was reported at the Riverview Golf Course and 1.2 inches and hail was received at Bayard.

Scotts Bluff County Public Works Director Rick Meter says County Road L is closed between Rifle Site Road and County Road 15 in the Haig area west of Scottsbluff. Local traffic is being allowed but the roads department is bringing dirt in to help fill the washed out roads.

County Road J is still close due to bridge structure that needs repair. Meter says the Hubbard's gap area south of McGrew got a lot of water Wednesday evening,, and while there was water running down the roads , no closures were required.

Some reports of hail 1 and 3/4 inch in Scottsbluff, much of it was pea and marble, lot of 1 inch hail and downpours of rain. KNEB measured 1.02 rain this morning and there was 1.12 at the airport and reports of over an inch of rain were common in Scottsbluff. Gering received less rain, but also had some small hail that stripped leaves.

In Alliance four and a half inches of rain was reported 10 miles west of Alliance, causing flooding and road washouts.

Thunderstorms rolling through Box Butte County Wednesday night produced pea to marble to golf ball sized hail.

Between 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., KCOW Radio received seventy-three hundredths (.73) on an inch of rain. The station also received pea to marble sized hail.

Golf ball sized hail was reported 11 miles west of Alliance.

National Weather Service radar indicated up to three inches of rain had fallen in portions of southern Box Butte County which prompted the weather service to issue a small stream flood advisory.
