The Scotts Bluff County Board has decided in a split 3-2 vote to re-bid for new boilers. The county had received two bids, one for $144,000 from trane of Fort Collins, Colorado and the other for $108,000 from Independent Plumbing of Scottsbluff.
But the commissioners were troubled by the fact the Trane bid came with a 20 year warranty while the Independent Plumbing bid only came with a five year warranty.
Board Chair Mark Masterton said after the board received a legal opinion from Deputy Scotts Bluff County Attorney Scott Blaha that rebidding was one of three options they could consider, the county decided to re-let the project.
Commissioners Steve Stratton and Mike Marker voted against re-letting the project, maintaining the bid process used was fair and the county needed to accept the lowest and best offer from the two bids. Both men felt the offer from Trane should be accepted.
Funds for the project are coming from federal stimulus money.
