Humphrey St. Francis wins D2 title

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ Unbeaten Humphrey St. Francis held Hayes Center scoreless at Memorial Stadium and claimed the state D2 football title. Matt Korus ran for 207 yards on 37 carries and scored five touchdowns on Monday to lead St. Francis (13-0) to its 34-0 win over the Cardinals (11-2). The Flyers allowed Hayes Center just six total yards on its first two drives. Korus ran for 56 yards and a seven-yard score on 11 carries in the first quarter alone. The Flyers led 22-0 at halftime. The Cardinals drove deep into Flyers territory several times but were stopped on fourth downs and by an interception at the goal line. Keifer Messersmith led the Cardinals with 83 yards on 19 carries and threw for 24 yards. The title is St. Francis' first since 1996.
