Zephyrs win one and lose one

The Westco Zephyrs are on the road for the Fourth of July weekend. They are playing in the Firecracker Tournament in Laramie and action for Mark Moran's crew started Thursday. The Z's split two games, losing to Loveland, Colorado 5-4, and beating host Laramie 9-2.

Loveland scored three runs in the final inning to get the come from behind win, but the Z's bounced back strong against Laramie. Michael Hoppes threw a three hitter at the Rangers. Tyler Patrick sparked the Zephyrs offense, going 3-3 with two rbi's.

The Zephyrs have now won 10 out of their last 12 games to move to 15-17 on the year. They will play Friday afternoon in Laramie against the Colorado Bandits.

The Gering B&C Steel junior legion team suffered two one run losses at Rapid City Thursday, 6-5 and 9-8. Gering outhit Rapid City in the first game 12-2, but the hosts benefited from a number of Gering errors and walks to pull out the win. Gering will travel to Chappell to play the Buckley Bombers Friday night.
