
It's playoff football time in Nebraska. A number of area teams will begin play in the second season Thursday.
Included is Mitchell. The Tigers, for the second year in a row, will begin the C1 playoffs in Broken Bow. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 MT. You can catch the game on KNEB-AM 960 and on the web at kneb.com. Last year the Indians downed Mitchell 61-0. This year Broken Bow is off to an 8-0 start. Mitchell is 4-3. Both teams are making there third playoff appearance in a row. It's the eighth overall trip to the playoffs for the Tigers. Broken Bow won the state title in 1987, beating Kimball and Chadron on the way to the championship.
Speaking of Chadron they have a 4:00 pm kickoff Thursday at home against Boone Central. It will be a battle of the C1 Cardinals. However, Chadron is 7-0 on the year and the visiting Cardinals from Albion are just 3-5. Chadron is making its seventh straight appearance in the playoffs and their 14th in the last 15 years.
In another C1 Thursday game Gordon-Rushville hosts Valentine at 5:00 pm. It's the fourth straight playoff appearance for the Mustangs who will be looking for their first postseason win.
Garden County will be making its eighth straight appearance in the playoffs Thursday. They will host Crawford in a 2:30 MT game. The Eagles beat Crawford 56-20 during the regular season.
Also on Thursday Potter-Dix will travel to unbeaten Pleasanton for a 3:00 pm MT game.
Friday's playoff schedule includes the Gering Bulldogs hosting Lexington in a 2:00 p.m. game. It will be a rematch from the regular season when Gering traveled to Lexington and won 20-0 September 25th. Gering is making its eighth overall appearance in the playoffs and first since 2005. It's the fourth trip for a Tom O'Boyle team. The game can be heard on KNEB-AM and at kneb.com at 1:30.
In other Class B action Alliance will travel to west bracket top seed Aurora for a 5:00 pm MT game. Ogallala has a rematch with McCook at 7:00 pm. McCook travels this time after hosting and losing 10-7 in overtime to the Indians this past Friday.
The other west bracket game has Adams Central hosting Seward in Hastings. If both Adams Central and Gering win the second round game will be a week from Friday in Gering. If Seward and Gering both win the game in two weeks will be in Seward.
Also on Friday Minatare travels to Arnold for a six-man first round playoff game. The Indians whipped Arnold at home this past Friday 50-14. You'll be able to hear that game on KNEB-FM with the kickoff scheduled for 2:00 pm.
